How do I do a Manual Activation of my License?

Most users will be able to activate Kaleidoscope automatically by either entering their email address and password in Kaleidoscope under “License > Activate annual subscription” (in the case of annual subscriptions) or by entering their Permanent License ID and email address under “License > Install permanent or demo license”. Kaleidoscope will automatically communicate with our license server and activate your copy of the software.

However, if you attempt to activate a computer that is either disconnected from the internet or on a restricted network, Kaleidoscope will display a message saying that the activation failed. The License Configuration window will then display a set of steps to follow in order to manually activate the software. This FAQ will go through those steps in greater detail.

Open Kaleidoscope, and navigate to License > Activate annual subscription, or License > Install permanent or demo license, depending on the type of license you have.

On this page, enter your email address and password (Annual Subscription) or License ID (Permanent/Demo License), then click Activate.

If your computer is not connected to the Internet, or you are on a restricted connection, you will see a message indicating that automatic activation failed. Click OK to close this message.

The License Configuration window should now display instructions for Manual Activation. Note the Installation ID displayed on this window. You will need it in a few steps. The Installation ID is unique to your computer.

Note that the example Installation ID shown below has the format used for Annual Subscriptions. Installation IDs for Permanent or Demo Licenses are shorter, consisting only of two groups of eight characters.

On any computer, open, select the type of license you are trying to activate, then click Next.

On this page, enter your email address and the Installation ID displayed in the Kaleidoscope License Configuration window, then click Activate.

This page will provide a Manual Activation Code that is unique to your computer and email address.

Back in the Kaleidoscope software, paste or type the Manual Activation Code into the corresponding text box, then click Manual.

Kaleidoscope should display the message, “License activation successful.”

Within Kaleidoscope, the tabs for the paid analysis features should now be marked with green checks. Note that Auto ID for Bats is only active in Bat Analysis Mode, and SPL Analysis and Acoustic Indices are only active in Non-bat Analysis Mode.
