Song Meters that accept AA batteries are designed primarily for use with alkaline batteries. Most single-use AA batteries are alkaline.
NiMH rechargeable batteries and lithium iron disulfide batteries (e.g. Energizer Ultimate Lithium) also work, but battery percentage and battery life estimations will not be accurate. See the section Types of AA Batteries in the recorder's user guide for more details:
