Dan Mennill studies acoustic communication in temperate and tropical animals, especially birds. He runs the Mennill Sound Analysis Laboratory at University of Windsor, where he and his research team use a field-based approach to study wild animals in Canada and Costa Rica. Dan has helped to pioneer new technologies for bioacoustic field studies of birds, including interactive playback, multi-speaker playback, and multi-channel microphone array recording. Dan has published more than 150 papers in scientific journals, and supervised more than 40 graduate students and postdoctoral researchers. He is a Fellow of the American Ornithological Society, a member of the Society of Canadian Ornithologists and the Animal Behaviour Society, and he serves as the Associate Dean of Science for Research and Graduate Studies at University of Windsor. He lives with his wife, ornithologist Stéphanie Doucet, and their two children in Lasalle, Ontario, Canada.
