Modular Video System
The key feature of the modular model is the ability to remotely
mount discrete camera housings up to 200 metres from the actual
video recorder. This arrangement enables individual system components
to be mounted in the most practical or effective location, for example,
a small remote camera mounted 20 metres up a tree monitoring a hollow
entrance.
A tough and waterproof case houses a Panasonic industrial standard
surveillance video recorder featuring frame by frame editing, date
and time printing and up to 8 hrs real time or 24 hrs time lapse
recording. The Faunatech video control unit takes command of, and
enhances the video recorder's sophisticated features, thereby presenting
to the user five operating modes appropriate for remote wildlife
surveillance deployments, while presenting a practical and user
friendly "front end" for the system. This enables non-technical
operators easy control of the system's advanced timing and recording
features.
A small TV screen is provided to enable monitoring of both the
camera's view or the on-screen menus. A panel mounted LCD clock
enables the programming of four separate recording sessions in a
24 hour period.
The remote camera housing incorporates a small sensitive camera
with vari-focal lens and auto iris, a socket for the TV screen (for
in situ camera alignments), and a thermostatically controlled heater
for dew suppression. The lens hood houses a master infra-red illuminator
and a small microphone for real time aural recording of activity.
A socket is provided for connection to external sensors and slave
illuminators (alternately these can be connected directly to the
main housing if required).
The remote camera housing is waterproof, tough and easy to adjust
in awkward situations. It is connected to the main VTR housing via
a single composite cable.
Alternatively, the standard camera housing can be replaced with
the optional mini lens for covert applications.
